Ask three Perth locals for a weekend plan and you'll get three arguments. Ask our concierge desk — the people who build bespoke itineraries daily — and a clear pattern emerges: early starts, long lunches and the river at golden hour.
Day one: the island and the valley
Take the 8:30 ferry to Rottnest before the crowds, hire bikes at the settlement and ride the south coast bays — quokkas are most cooperative before 10am. Back on the mainland by early afternoon, run straight up to the Swan Valley for a late cellar-door lunch; our partners hold tables that don't take walk-ins.
Return by 17:00, hand the afternoon to Azure Spa's thermal circuit, then take the 19:30 chef's counter seating at Étoile.
The concierge's rule: mornings belong to adventure, evenings to the table.
Day two: water and light
Sleep in deliberately — this is the morning the itinerary protects. Late breakfast at The Morning Table, an hour by the lagoon, then the 14:00 Swan River charter downriver to Fremantle.
Walk the harbour, coffee on the Cappuccino Strip, and cruise back as the city lights come up. Dinner at Golden Koi keeps the evening easy; the brave finish in the casino's main salon.
If you have a third day
Kings Park before the heat, the Art Gallery of WA mid-morning, and a slow wander through Fremantle's west end — or simply book a cabana and let the resort do the entertaining.
Interstate guests often add a Margaret River extension; the concierge quotes it as a day rate with the chauffeur fleet and packs the esky accordingly.
Field notes
- Book the 8:30 Rottnest ferry — the 10:00 sailing arrives with the crowds.
- Quokkas cooperate before 10am; after lunch they nap and so does your photo.
- Protect one empty morning — every tight itinerary needs somewhere to exhale.
- The chef's counter seats 14 only; reserve it before you book flights.
